What is IASMS?

Low-altitude operations could create meaningful new services, infrastructure and revenue. IASMS is highly relevant because growth depends on monitoring distributed activity, understanding dynamic risk and intervening in time.

Working definition

The low-altitude economy is the emerging ecosystem of aerial operations, vehicles, infrastructure, digital services and commercial activity close to the ground. The term is not yet a single globally harmonised aviation category.

WHY IASMS FITS

Many operators. One changing risk picture.

Dense, heterogeneous and highly automated operations can create risk that no single participant can see. An IASMS concept can combine vehicle health, weather, traffic, infrastructure, conformance and ground-exposure signals so hazards are assessed in context.

THE AI/ML ROLE

Pattern recognition with guardrails.

AI and machine learning may support anomaly detection, forecasting, trajectory and conflict analysis, and the prioritisation of safety signals. Assurance, data provenance and degraded modes remain essential. Authorised automation may act only within defined bounds; accountable human and organisational governance remains responsible for those bounds and their consequences.
