The low-altitude economy is the emerging ecosystem of aerial operations, vehicles, infrastructure, digital services and commercial activity close to the ground. The term is not yet a single globally harmonised aviation category.

WHY IASMS FITS
Dense, heterogeneous and highly automated operations can create risk that no single participant can see. An IASMS concept can combine vehicle health, weather, traffic, infrastructure, conformance and ground-exposure signals so hazards are assessed in context.
THE AI/ML ROLE
AI and machine learning may support anomaly detection, forecasting, trajectory and conflict analysis, and the prioritisation of safety signals. Assurance, data provenance and degraded modes remain essential. Authorised automation may act only within defined bounds; accountable human and organisational governance remains responsible for those bounds and their consequences.

Is the activity moving from trials toward repeatable, authorised operations?
Can services maintain identity, intent, conformance and conflict awareness at scale?
Can aircraft, operators, authorities and service suppliers exchange trustworthy data?

Can essential services degrade safely when data, communications or suppliers fail?
Is there a durable service and safety case beyond the demonstration?
